Boarding "Preciosa" at the transom, the generous swim platform is 9ft 10" wide and just under 3 ft across. The 3-rung telescopic swim ladder is mounted on the starboard side, well clear of the drives. Walk through the transom to access the aft cockpit. The aft seating incorporates a swinging back rest to create a large sunlounger. With a step up into the forward cockpit, Regal has achieved forward seating where the Captain and guests are on the same level and in the same area to socialise under way or at anchor. With just a 10 degree bow rise when accelerating onto the plane (in under 6 seconds), and a 5 degree rise when underway ( to over 40 knots), everyone has great panoramic views.
The helm position incorporates twin throttles, manual overrides for the automatic trim assist and the stern drive joystick control which makes docking so straightforward. All gauges and electrical switches are ergonomically positioned. The cockpit ‘refreshment centre' incorporates a grill, fridge, sink and waste disposal. There is a walk-through windscreen to foredeck lounging, and the bow area where the forward stantions rise 27 inches above the deck for secure operation of the anchor windlass.
Engine access is excellent. Main access under the aft deck seating incorporates a powerful hydraulic ram to keep the hatch up, there are steps down to the engine bay and good accessibility to do all routine checks. There is still space to walk off the transom with the engine hatch open. Conveniently, a smaller deck hatch forward also gives access to the engine bay, without disturbing the seating area aft during the day if required. Lighting is excellent in the engine room.
The owners stateroom forward has a California Queen (4ft 9" wide) berth offset to port, and a seating area to starboard. With opening side ports, and a large overhead hatch, ventilation is excellent if you prefer not to run the Air Conditioning. There is a sliding door on the bulkhead for privacy. There is up to 6ft 5" of headroom in the forward cabin and saloon. With three overhead hatches, and screened ports for cross ventilation, the Express 38 is a really comfortable weekender.
Under the Aft deck there is a seating area, with 3ft 9" overhead clearance, and this area converts into a double berth, with a curtain for privacy.
The galley has a recessed double electric hob, good sized fridge and galley storage.
The head and shower to starboard are generous for an express weekender, and with 67 gallons of water, plenty for long showers.
The saloon has a folding table that can be easily removed and stored behind the seat back. The setee converts to a double berth. With the leatherette upholstery, and pale deck head finish, the interior is light and luxurious.
The Fusion 700 stereo provides great sounds both above and below decks, with two sets of marine speakers.
