Model Overview
The Galeon 500 Fly is the flybridge that put Galeon on the American map, in production since 2016 and named European Powerboat of the Year. At 53'2" overall with a 14'8" beam, it packs a full flybridge, three cabins, and two heads into a genuinely innovative layout. Its signature trick is the pair of folding cockpit balconies — hydraulic bulwark sections that drop down to add nearly 90 square feet of waterside deck space at anchor. Below, a full-beam master, a forward VIP, and a twin guest cabin sleep six in real comfort, while the flybridge carries a second helm, sun pads, and dining for the whole crew.
Performance
Twin 670-hp Volvo Penta D11 diesels on shaft drives push the 500 Fly to around 30 knots, with a comfortable mid-20s cruise that suits long coastal hops. Bow and stern thrusters come standard-issue on most examples, and many carry a Seakeeper gyro, which flattens the roll at anchor and underway alike. The helm stations — main and flybridge — offer excellent visibility, and the hull's solid, planted ride is confidence-inspiring for owner-operators stepping up from smaller boats. It is a genuine dual-purpose yacht: serious passage capability with day-boat fun built in.
Buyer Guidance
The 500 Fly's wow features are also its inspection points: cycle the folding balconies through their full range and check the hydraulic system and seals, since smooth operation is a hallmark of a well-kept boat. Review Volvo D11 service records, generator hours, and Seakeeper maintenance if fitted. The glass-heavy superstructure rewards covered or lift storage, so compare gelcoat and upholstery condition carefully — a well-stored example shows it immediately.
