About Used Scout Boats
Scout Boats began in 1989 in Summerville, South Carolina, founded by Steve Potts — a powerboat racer who believed a fishing boat could be built like a race boat. Potts came out of the performance world convinced that ordinary polyester construction was holding the industry back, and from day one Scout built every hull with epoxy resin rather than the vinylester or polyester standard everywhere else. Epoxy costs more and demands a slower layup, but it produces a lighter, stiffer, stronger laminate — and Scout's entire reputation was built on that uncompromising choice.
The brand grew through the 1990s and 2000s as its center consoles earned a following among serious offshore anglers, then made a decisive leap into luxury performance with the 2016 launch of the 420 LXF — at the time the largest center console on the market. The 530 LXF, stretching past 53 feet, cemented Scout as the builder pairing genuine fishing capability with yacht-grade fit and finish. The company remains family-owned and builds every boat in its South Carolina facility.
