The Regal Legacy
Regal was founded in 1969 in Orlando, Florida, by Paul and Carol Kuck — who had earlier built a small runabout called the Orlando Clipper. The Kucks built the company on a simple idea: a family boat should feel like a much more expensive boat. Through the 1970s and 1980s Regal grew into one of the largest family-boat builders in the country, and the second generation — brothers Tim and Duane Kuck — took over in the 1990s and pushed the brand decisively upmarket.
The 2000s brought Regal's most distinctive innovations. The FasTrac hull stepped the running surface for speed and efficiency; the PowerTower collapsed the hardtop at the touch of a button for bridge clearance and trailering; and the Regal Surf System — adjustable tabs plus ballast — turned sterndrive and outboard boats into legitimate surf machines without a dedicated towboat. In recent years Regal has leaned hard into outboard power across the lineup, reflecting how buyers boat today. The company remains family-owned and builds in Orlando, Florida.
Why Regal
Regal's trick is delivering yacht-grade detailing at family-boat prices. Step aboard a Regal next to a competitor at the same price and the difference shows in the upholstery stitching, the helm layout, the stainless work, and the way hatches close — the Kucks have always spent the money where owners touch the boat every day. The FasTrac stepped hull is genuinely effective, giving Regals quicker planing and better cruise economy than their weight suggests.
The brand also moves fast on trends that matter to families: outboard power for easy maintenance and swim-platform space, surf systems for watersports, and joystick docking on larger cruisers. For used buyers, that means a 5-to-10-year-old Regal often feels more current than its age — the features buyers want today were already showing up on Regals years ago.
Regals are well-built boats, but as with any used family cruiser, the survey should focus on engine and drive service history, bellows and manifolds on sterndrive models, and moisture readings in the transom and stringers.

South Florida Regal Market
South Florida's protected Intracoastal waterways, Bahamas day trips, and year-round boating season are well-matched to Regal's family-first formula. The brand's outboard-powered OBX bowriders and express cruisers suit the region's mix of calm-water family days and occasional offshore runs, while the larger Sport Yachts handle the Bahamas crossing in comfort.
Neff Yacht Sales is based in Palm Beach County, giving us direct access to the South Florida brokerage market and a strong network of Regal owners and buyers. We help families compare models and vintages so the boat fits the way you will actually use it.

Frequently Asked Questions
FasTrac is Regal's stepped hull design — the running surface is stepped rather than continuous, which reduces wetted surface area at speed and improves both top-end performance and cruise economy. The result is quicker planing and better fuel efficiency than the boat's weight would suggest. It is a genuine performance advantage, not a marketing claim, and it is one of the reasons Regals feel faster and more responsive than comparably priced competitors.
The PowerTower is Regal's collapsible hardtop system — the hardtop folds down at the touch of a button for bridge clearance and trailering, then raises back to full height for shade and protection underway. It was a genuinely innovative feature when Regal introduced it, and it remains one of the most practical hardtop solutions on the market. On used boats, verify the collapse mechanism operates smoothly and all seals are intact.
Regal consistently outpoints Sea Ray and Chaparral on fit and finish at comparable price points — the upholstery stitching, helm layout, stainless work, and hatch quality are all a step above. The FasTrac hull gives Regals a performance edge over Sea Ray's mainstream production hulls. Chaparral is a closer comparison in quality, but Regal's innovation pace — outboard power, surf systems, PowerTower — has generally kept it ahead of the curve on features that matter to families.
